In the mosaic.ini file that is in your windows directory you will find an
entry for NNTP_Server.  Point it  towards your newsserver.

Then use the following URL
news:alt.winsock

That should do it!

Subject: Winsock Archie and WS_FTP

I've got copies of both WSARCHIE and WS_FTP, and I can use them both fine
separately.  But when I try to call up WS_FTP from within WSARCHIE to go get a
file, it's no go.  I've set the WS_FTP directory to the correct one in the FTP
setup part of WSARCHIE, but no luck.  Any suggestions?

There is a book entitled "The Windows Internet Tour Guide" which comes
with a disk containing a Chameleon sampler. I spent a great amount of
time trying to get a PPP driver to talk too the trumpet winsock to no avail.
The Chameleon package talks PPP, SLIP, and CSLIP and although the
book is very rudimentary I gladly paid the $22.00 just to get the disk!
I am running all manner of winsock compliant applications and have
not found any that would not talk to it. The software is very stable and
user friendly and well worth the price of the book to avoid the frustration
of trying to bandaid other packages together to make them talk PPP.
You don't need a packet driver, you don't need winpkt, everything is
native windows and it will establish your PPP connection automatically
from within windows.

I have 2 NFS clients for DOS tcp stacks but my need is
for the WFWG 3.11 environment over winsock.

Does anybody know of a free/shareware NFS client over
windsock??

Or a receipe for running the DOS trumpet stack over
pkt_dis9, over NDIS2 ALONG SIDE NETBUEI.  I need the
WFWG / NETBUEI features of shareing drives and mail
between WFWG boxes..

Check out the screen when you connect.  If it says <name> Nickname is already
in use, then it means it can't connect with your Nickname selected.  Go to
<Special>, <Nick> and put in a new nickname.  If this name is not in use,
you should connect ok.

I use irc.uiuc.edu and it works fine for me.
